Guide to Disability Rights Laws

A Guide to Dilability LawsIn addition to the ADA there are several other acts that help to level the playing field for the disabled. These include deaf communications services, fair housing, voting, as well as architectural barriers. We all run into issues getting around and how we are treated so we need to know what the requirements are. While it would be nice to think that businesses and landlords would actually know what is required of them in the law, they are only drive by profits. If they can stay in compliance without spending money that sounds good, but if they are not in compliance they will still try to run and hide. We have read many instances where businesses figured it was cheaper to deal with lawsuits then to fix an architectural problem. Many totally ignore the law because it can take years for the court system to hit the plaintiff with significant fines. However that does not mean that you should allow these people to do things ti you that are illegal because you have every right of movement that able-bodies people do. The only way we will keep out civil rights is if we fight for them. Attached to this blog is a PDF document that outlines the different acts and what they entail.
