Disabled man strapped to wheelchair saved after rolling into lake

RockyMountainNews.com has a story about a disabled man that was saved by three good samaritans who saw him roll into a lake. The disabled man was part of a group that had been brought to the lake to see the wildlife in the area. While he was looking at the fish close to the water’s edge, his wheelchair began to roll into the lake. A woman that was watching over the disabled troupe jumped into the water to stop the chair from rolling even further into the lake. He then began yelling for help while he held the disabled man’s head above water. Then two other men heard the yells for help and ran over to help. The wheelchair was too heavy initially for them, but after pulling the wheelchair under water they were able to slowly make their way back to shore. While the men were dragging the disabled man back to shore the fire department arrived. The disabled man was then treated for minor scrapes from being pulled back to shore.

It is great t see when the public jumps to attention when someone is in need. These men could have allowed the disabled man to drown while waiting for the fire department to show up but decided that was not acceptable. By holding his head above water and slowly dragging is wheelchair back to shore saved the man from severe trauma or death.
