Leg stimulator may help disabled walk again

Canadamanufacturing.com has a story about a team at Simon Fraser University that have a controller that can make a paralyzed leg work again. Taking messages from the brain and then sending it to various nerves and leg muscles, the person gets a near normal movement in their paralyzed leg. The user needs to only walk abound in a rehab environment so that they get used to how to device works and what the expect out of it. The device, which is implanted into the leg, has been fully productized and is awaiting approval in the European Union. Once the EU has given the ok for implantation, the device will be sent to US and Canadian groups for for eventual sale in North America. For those with a single paralyzed leg, this can dramatically increase your movement potential and allow you to get around as before your accident.

Hopefully we can get the insurance companies tied into this product because it would allow many people to get back to work and have near normal lives. It is good to see that all the research and development going into all aspects of disabilities we are beginning to see quality devices that can change the life of a disabled person and give them some of what was taken.
