Government grab for your medical coverage

For those that have not had the time (or patience) to watch the politics behind the news, congress and the president have been locked in a fight over our medical care system. Fights have broken out on both sides of the isle trying to get us to believe that their plan is the way to go. The existing bill is several thousand pages long and been pushed through committee in the matter of days. The size of the legislation along with the obvious problem of no one reading it creates a real problem. There is language in this bill that no one who has existing coverage would agree to, but it is so complicated and twisted that all seem to just want to throw their hands up in the air and just vote for the thing. What we can tell you is that you can expect to pay a lot more and get less. This bill, when it becomes law will dramatically effect every American that has a job. Companies will have to pay more in taxes for every employee they hire, young workers can expect to pay considerably more and will be forced to get insurance, whether they want it or not.

The additional taxes will make it harder to hire more workers and will force companies to charge more for their products or services. Remember, any and all corporate taxes are ultimately paid by us the consumer. Another scary aspect of this bill is that lobbyists have all had their say in what they want, but we have not as much as a town hall meeting on the affair. Since dramatic changes to our medical system that in Canada or Europe already have will cause problems and concerns, it will be important for us to figure out what we really want. No plan is perfect and there are good and bad parts to both a pay as you go system like we have now, and a governmental program like the UK has. In the end we want to be able to gain access to doctors when we need them at a price we can afford. Waiting years to see a doctor will kill those needing help. Those needing expensive procedures are stuck with no way to pay for the service they need. This country needs a happy medium that allows everyone to keep the coverage they have now, or to upgrade to something better via programs from insurance companies and the government.

To see what is needed just as your co-workers or family members. Everyone will have a particular need that either is not covered or is there and in danger of being removed. If you were to take what was asked for and compare that to the bill going through congress, it is doubtful that any needs would match up with what is in Washington. Since we are all going to be saddled with this, hoping that different groups that appear to have our best interests to heart will do the right things is nonsense. As we have asked before, contacting your congressmen is the only way we will get what we want and need. Otherwise we can be guaranteed this bill to law will be great for the insurance companies but not so great for those of us that pay the bills.
